Majority of the faithful of the Diocese are socially and economically marginalized and poor. Mostly the faithful are employed in farming and plantation and various small scale cottage industries.
A large number of people have casual and ill defined.
The foundation of the social service centre of the diocese marked the commitment of the diocese to the development of the people.
Punalur Social service society is the official organization of the catholic diocese of Punalur responsible for social action and developmental programme and operates in 102 villages in the districts of Kollam, Pathanamthitta and Alappuzha.
With the committee team of clergy, religious and laity, the diocese of Punalur with 38 years of history in the vineyard of the Lord is in the third millenium under leadership of three bishops, Bishop Mathias Kappil, Bishop Joseph Kariyil and Bishop Selvister.
